THE BRIEF

Refurbish a dated interior, give it a new lease of life, make it a casual yet stylish holiday home.

WHAT WE DID

This batch had been a long-held dream for this family. While it was old, it had great bones; however, the interior was dated and needed to be renovated and the home needed to be fully furnished. Erina Emery was asked to breathe some new life into it.

We painted over the heavy wood panelling in the house with a warm white to create a sense of space. We added colour to the bedrooms to both enhance and soften these rooms. New window treatments were added throughout the home to give it a modern classic feel, along with new hardy wooden flooring in the living spaces. We added lux carpet on the stairs and throughout the second storey.

The lighting was replaced with beautiful locally sourced shades to give it a beachy vibe. We invigorated the kitchen with a new bench on a conservative budget and painted all of the cabinetry with a gorgeous, simple green. This was a colour theme we used throughout the interior, which enabled us to link it easily to the outdoors and the green trim of the exterior.
The home was furnished with a mix of custom-made couches and ready-made pieces, which, when combined, allow you to create your own style. We mixed a range of furniture to ensure we had a home that felt like it had been there for years, letting it tell its own story.

It’s now ready to be enjoyed by family and friends, with memories to be made.

“I used Erina’s interior design skills after I bought a beach house built and decorated in the 1970’s. It had good bones, but the interior was truly hideous. I knew with the right finishes and furnishings it could be amazing, but I was time poor, lacked vision and had limited funds (see above: I bought a beach house).

What I liked most about working with Erina, apart from the fact she had a natural flare for this stuff, is that Erina embraced the project but did not take over, providing me with many choices/ possible combinations often electronically via mood boards which I could ponder at leisure.

Erina has a knack of not being pushy but directs you when you are flailing. Her mood boards save you oodles of time and I think her trade discounts almost covered her fees so a no brainer. The real estate agent who sold me the property was astounded by the transformation, and commented it was the best do up she had seen. If you are short on time, want a new look, but lack the confidence in doing it on your own, Erina is your woman.”
