HOW TO STYLE THE PERFECT VIGNETTE
A vignette is one of my favourite styling hacks, as a collector/hoarder I have lots of treasures from my past and my travels. They are amazing to display as they showcase who I am and “TELL MY STORY” they are a constant reminder of people in my life and places that I have visited.
However, it is important that they are styled well, to ensure that space doesn’t look too cluttered and this is where the vignette comes in.
In the world of interior design, a vignette is a small, curated style statement, made up of a group of objects that are displayed on a shelf, a table or elsewhere in your home. Think of it as a fabulous table arrangement that tells a story about you and your home.
The best thing about a vignette is that they can change and evolve constantly. As a new season arrives (or as you get bored, as I do frequently), you can bring items in or out to change up the look of your vignette.
If you’re on a tight budget, rearranging your vignettes is a great way to change up the scenes in your home without having to spend any money, Plants are also great as they are cheap, beautiful and great for your health.
WHAT TO PUT IN A VIGNETTE?
I don’t like to dictate what you should or shouldn’t include in a vignette, because I think you should display what you love, and have fun finding out what looks good together in your space, and what doesn’t.
As a rule, though, you should approach a vignette by grouping items according to elements like; similar colours, textures, themes or curating a collection, you have to show it off. For example, a group of glassware or items from one collection, then together. I do always try and sneak a plant into my vignettes as they have great colour, structure and there are so many amazing pots to showcase them in.
Vignettes can be displayed in very different ways; on a coffee table, up a shelf, using a wall for added dimension, mixing rustic items with high gloss, and using a tray to ground several objects in the one scene, (for example on a coffee table).

Choose objects to support the style and theme of your room
This should be easy as the items will be things you have chosen anyway. But feel free to mix vintage and modern and ensure they are telling the same story, “your story”! Vignettes can sometimes look a bit stagey, so ensure you have some personal items in here, like framed photos, family antiques or your favourite books.
Display in odd numbers
I don’t know what it is, but there is something about odd numbers which are much more pleasing on the eye. Groups of three or five work particularly well and stronger visually than a group of two or four.
Vary the height
Mix objects of different heights, if you are struggling with items of the same size you can use small pedestals to elevate items or try stacking books to create a platform for smaller objects.
Create depth
Ensure the items in your vignette are placed at varying depths, not all in a straight line. Think of it as a V shape.
Mix materials and texture, plants are great for this (I like to add a plant to most of my Vignettes).
Just as important as varying heights, varying textures also allows for an easy on the eye vignette.
Use colour to co-ordinate to your home
Use items in shades that complement the dominant colour in a room. Flowers, houseplants or books with colourful spines are good ways to introduce colour into your vignette.
